Microsoft Talks Money In NYC

By David A. Utter

The Financial Services Developer Conference in New York will promote the .Net Framework as the place to develop next generation financial applications.

Microsoft's sold-out Financial Developers Conference begins its fourth year, with the company eager to demonstrate the benefits of its .Net Framework for the banking, capital markets, and insurance industries.

"This event is an interactive forum to help customers learn the latest on how to use the power of the Microsoft platform and partner ecosystem to develop and deploy new applications that can transform their businesses," said Mike Wons, technology strategy director for the Financial Services Group at Microsoft.

Frank Schlier, VP and Distinguished Analyst from the Gartner Group, gave the morning keynote at the conference this morning. The early part of today focused on technical events, while the afternoon sessions looked at the application of Microsoft solutions for the various industry tracks.

One session should have plenty of interest from the attendees. Michael Worosz of Microsoft will discuss new client features available in Excel 12, part of the forthcoming Office 2007 productivity suite.

They also plan live previews of other upcoming 2007 Microsoft Office system and partner products in action. Office 2007 should be available along with the Vista operating system in late 2006 to businesses; consumers won't see either until 2007.

Developers also get sessions on building business intelligence to work in real-time, finding interoperability between Java and Microsoft products, and ways to perform threat modeling to assess the security of an application.

Microsoft also planned to emphasize the Customer Care Framework (CCF) it discussed in January. That product collects information from sources like customer relationship management, order management, and accounts payable into a single presence on a customer service agent's desktop.

A session about CCF at the conference will focus on demonstrations of the technology that Microsoft hopes will catch on with its banking and financial services customer attendees.

The conference runs through April 25th at the Millennium Broadway Hotel.
